Warning Signs of Mental Health Crisis

Watch for these signs in yourself or others:

Talking about wanting to die or hurt oneself
Looking for ways to kill oneself
Feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
Talking about being a burden to others
Increasing use of alcohol or drugs
Acting anxious or agitated
Withdrawing from family and friends
Changing eating and sleeping habits
Showing rage or extreme mood swings
Expressing hopelessness
Remember: If someone is showing multiple signs, especially talking about death or suicide, take it seriously and get help immediately.

How to Help Someone in Crisis

Ways you can provide support:

Take it seriously - Listen and don't minimize their feelings
Stay calm and non-judgmental
Ask directly if they are thinking about suicide
Encourage them to seek professional help
Don't leave them alone if you think they are in immediate danger
Remove any potential means of self-harm
Call 988 or emergency services if needed
Follow up and stay connected
Take care of yourself too
Remember: You don't have to be a professional counselor to help. Sometimes just listening and showing you care can make a difference.
